Honasan, Querubin file CoCs for senator
MANILA, Philippines — Former senator Gregorio «Gringo» Honasan and Marine Col. Ariel Querubin filed their certificates of candidacy (CoCs) for senator on Monday.
Honasan aims to regain his Senate post that he vacated in 2018 after he was appointed as secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology.
The former Army lieutenant colonel and close aide of former defense secretary and now Presidential Legal Adviser Juan Ponce Enrile was first elected senator in 1995.
Honasan is one of the key founders of Reform the Armed Forces Movement or RAM which figured in several coup attempts in the 1980s.
Querubin, on the other hand, is a decorated military officer. If he gets elected, he vowed to fight for the country's territorial rights in the West Philippine Sea.
Honasan and Querubin are running as independents.
