Hotshots vent ire on Dyip

MANILA, Philippines -- The Magnolia Hotshots bounced back from their first loss in the PBA Season 48 Commissioner's Cup, asserting their mastery over the Terrafirma Dyip, 104-91, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.

Terrafirma thus absorbed its fifth straight loss.

Magnolia showed why it's the top-seeded team in the league, going up by as much as 31 points, 88-57, with a layup by Jio Jalalon in the 1:19 mark of the third quarter.

Terrafirma then showed signs of life, spearheaded by Gelo Alolino, as they cut the lead inch by inch.

The Dyip trimmed the lead to 14, 88-102, with two minutes remaining in the game.

However, David Murrell sealed the deal with a layup with 1:47 left.

The 13-point spread at the end of the game was the nearest Terrafirma got to.

The ever-consistent Tyler Bey had another stat-stuffing game for Magnolia, finishing with 25 points,12 rebounds and seven assists.

Ian Sangalang added 18 markers and nine boards off the bench.

Juami Tiongson recorded 17 points for Terrafirma, while Alolino chipped in 13 points in 10 minutes.

The Dyip's import, Thomas de Thaey, struggled offensively, ending with just 11 points and 13 boards. He also had five turnovers.

Magnolia stayed on top of the competition with an 8-1 win-loss slate. Terrafirma dropped to 2-6 in the season.
