Immaculate Conception Feast Day: ‘No work, no pay’ policy in effect

THE “no work, no pay” policy shall be in effect when the country celebrates the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary today, Friday, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Based on Labor Advisory No. 27-2022, DOLE said those who will not report for work today won’t be entitled to salaries despite today being a “special non-working day”.

“If the employee does not work, the ‘no work, no pay’ principle shall apply unless there is a favorable company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) granting payment on a special non-working day,” said DOLE.

For work rendered today, the employer shall pay the employee an additional 30 percent of the basic wage on the first eight hours of work and an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate for overtime work.

For work rendered that falls on the employee’s rest day, the employer shall pay the employee an additional 50 percent of the basic wage on the first eight hours of work and an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate for overtime work.

Under Republic Act No. 10966, December 8 of every year is a special non-working holiday in the entire country in commemoration of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary.

Manila Archbishop Cardinal Jose Advincula and Papal Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Charles John Brown will preside over the Feast Day Mass of the Immaculate Conception today (Friday) at the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros.

In a social media post, the Manila Cathedral (also known as the Minor Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception) announced that Advincula and Brown will co-preside the Mass at 12:10 pm.

Manila Cathedral Rector Msgr Rolando dela Cruz will lead the Mass at 6 pm.

Other Fiesta Day Masses are set at 8 a.m. (Fr Carlo Magno Marcelo), 10 a.m. (Msgr Pedro Gerardo Santos), and 4 p.m. (Fr Vicente Gabriel Bautista).
