Kyt Jimenez says goodbye to long hair after Beermen's title conquest

MANILA, Philippines -- San Miguel rookie Kyt Jimenez’s trademark long hair is officially gone.

But, for good reason.

Jimenez had his soft and bouncy hair cut after the Beermen won the PBA Commissioner’s Cup championship on Wednesday.

Immediately after the game, and with the Beermen celebrating, one of the first words uttered by Jimenez’s teammates inside the dugout was, “Where’s Kyt?”

And after showering him with beer, Jimenez’s hair was cut.

“When I was first drafted into the PBA here with San Miguel, after a few weeks, I became close with June Mar [Fajardo]. And, it was a deal with Kuya June Mar and Coach Chris [Ross], that if we won a championship, my hair will be automatically be cut,” Jimenez told reporters after the game.

His long hair is a signature look for the flashy guard, which, he said, was not cut since pre-pandemic times.

But was it worth it?

“Of course, it is worth it. I am still a rookie and I already won a championship,” he added.

“This is [the shortest hairstyle I had for years]. But, I will have my hair cut again. In the Philippine Cup, I will have a new hairstyle.”

It is no secret that Jimenez’s journey to the PBA was a little bit unconditional.

The guard is a social media star who earlier played with Mav’s Phenomenal Basketball.

He then took his act to the MPBL and the Pilipinas Super League.

And now, he can finally call himself a PBA champion.

“It is a very good feeling [to be champion] because a lot of people know I am just playing in ligang labas. But, for me, the Lord gave me a good path to get here,” Jimenez said.

“I am really thankful to those who support me, and of course, the Lord for bringing me here.”
