Last working day of November a 'National Bike-to-Work Day' — Palace

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 29) — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday issued a proclamation declaring the last working day of November of every year as «National Bike-to-Work Day.»

Under Proclamation No. 409 signed by Executive Secretary Luxas Bersamin on Nov. 28, the Inter Agency Technical Working Group on Active Transport (IATWG-AT) is mandated to lead, coordinate, and supervise the observance of the National Bike-to-Work Day.

It will also be responsible for identifying the programs, projects, and activities for the annual celebration of the event.

In addition, the president has directed national government agencies, including government-owned or -controlled corporations, government financial institutions, and state universities to provide assistance and support to the Department of Health and the IATWG-AT for effective implementation of the proclamation.

Malacañang said the declaration is part of the government's effort to «to raise public awareness on the viability of cycling as a mode of transportation.»

According to a survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations in September, one out of three Filipino families are bike users.

The poll showed 10 million (36%) of households nationwide have at least one member who uses a bicycle up from 7.3 million (29%) in April 2022 and 6.2 million (24%) in May 2021.
