LPA enters PAR but unlikely to escalate into tropical depression

A low pressure area (LPA) entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday but has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical depression, the state-run weather agency said earlier in the day.

Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina said the LPA was estimated some 750 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

«We do not see this weather disturbance developing into a tropical depression within its forecast period but its trough or extension is affecting some areas in the country,» Badrina said.

Possibly, the LPA would only become a trough of Typhoon 'Bolaven' (international name) which has been outside PAR for the last few days, he added.

Pagasa said Bolaven has no direct effect in the country.

The trough of the LPA is bringing overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Visayas, Mindanao, Bicol Region, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and from partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated downpours and thunderstorms in the rest of Luzon, the state weather bureau said.
