LPA off GenSan seen to dissipate

A LOW pressure area (LPA) was monitored yesterday off General Santos City, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

The LPA was forecast to dissipate in the next 24 to 36 hours, from yesterday morning, PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said.

The LPA was last monitored some 365 km east southeast of General Santos City.

“We expect this low pressure area to be almost stationary in the coming hours,” said Estareja.

The LPA, which developed at around 8 a.m. yesterday, is not expected to intensify into a tropical depression.

“Based on our analysis and models, it is slowly moving westward. It is possible that in the next 24 to 36 hours, it will dissipate while in the area of southeastern Mindanao,” said Estareja.

Estareja said the LPA is embedded in the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).

He said the LPA and the ITCZ will bring rains in the regions of Caraga, Davao, Soccsksargen and Northern Mindanao. – Victor Reyes
