LRT-1 test runs new generation train set
THE Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) completed the first test run of its 2nd generation train set along the railway of Cavite Extension Phase 1 on Tuesday.
The test was part of the preparations to ensure the completion of Phase 1 extension in the last quarter of 2024.
«As we near the completion of this much-awaited railway project, the general public will begin to see more trains undergoing test runs and trial runs,» said Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) President and CEO Juan Alfonso in a statement, noting the five new stations under the 6.7-kilometer phase 1 project are in various stages of development.
«We are confident that once this extension is operational, it will help in significantly improving the train system in our country providing a more efficient and reliable transportation option,» he added.
LRT-1 travels in a general north-south direction from Baclaran to Monumento and then east-west from Monumento to Fernando Poe Jr. Currently, the line consists of 20 stations.
On the other hand, Cavite Extension Phase 1 covers 6.7 kilometers and consists of five stations: Redemptorist Station, MIA Station, Asia World Station, Ninoy Aquino Station and Dr. Santos Station.
