Manila commemorates founding anniversary; several roads closed

SEVERAL roads in Manila will be closed today, Monday, in connection with the 453rd Araw ng Maynila celebration.

An advisory issued by the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) yesterday said the closure is due to the civil and military parade in commemoration of the city’s founding anniversary.

From midnight onwards on June 24, the MTPB said the following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic:

1. Onyx Street (from Pedro Gil to Zobel Roxas St.)

2. Zobel Roxas St. (from Pablo Ocampo to Pasig Line St), and

3. Florentino Torres St. (also known as Dagonoy S).

The MTPB advised motorists to take alternate routes to their destination.

Malacanang has declared June 24 as a special non-working holiday in Manila.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-National Capital Region (NCR) yesterday reminded employers in Manila that the “no work, no pay” policy will be in effect today.

In a social media post, DOLE NCR reminded Manila City employers of the existing pay rules during the commemoration of the 453rd Anniversary of the City of Manila.

“A ‘no work, no pay’ scheme is implemented during a special non-working day, unless the company has a policy or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) that provides wages for the said day,” said the DOLE-NCR.

On the other hand, an employee who will report for work today will be paid an additional 30 percent of his daily wage for the first eight hours of his work and an additional 30 percent of his hourly income for overtime work. – With Gerard Naval
