Manila ranked 5th riskiest city for tourists

MANILA, Philippines — Manila has been named among the five riskiest cities for tourists by Forbes Advisor, a global platform dedicated to helping consumers make informed financial decisions.

The platform compared 60 international cities across key metrics that include crime, personal security, health security, infrastructure, natural disaster and digital security risks.

Among the cities, Manila has been ranked as the fifth riskiest city.

The report indicated that Manila has the highest natural disaster risk, the fifth highest personal security risk and the seventh highest health security risk.

The natural disaster risk metric reflects a city’s exposure and vulnerability to natural disasters, while the personal security metric reflects risks from crime, violence, terrorist threats, natural disasters and economic vulnerabilities.

Lastly, the health security metric reflects the level and quality of health care services and infrastructure in a city.

Caracas in Venezuela was cited as the riskiest city for tourists, recording the highest health security risk, the highest crime risk and the worst travel safety rating from the US State Department.

Karachi in Pakistan came in second, followed by Yangon in Myanmar at third and Lagos in Nigeria at fourth.

Meanwhile, Singapore was named the safest city for tourists, followed by Tokyo, Japan and Toronto, Canada.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified its operations against high-value suspects and wanted fugitives in the country.

PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil yesterday ordered police units to intensify the nationwide drive against suspected criminals to ensure the safety and security of the public.

Marbil issued the directive as he wants to maintain peace and security throughout the country, especially with the upcoming midterm elections. – Emmanuel Tupas
