Marcial gets chance to test technical skills vs Thai
MANILA, Philippines – Filipino Olympic bronze medalist Eumir Marcial will have his hands full as he fights a technical fighter in Thoedsak Sinam this weekend at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.
Marcial will the Thai boxer Saturday night in an eight-round professional bout a few months before the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Brico Santig, a Bangkok-based Filipino matchmaker, said that Sinam “comes to fight and win.”
“Sinam is similar to Marcial…they just don’t throw punches, they also are a bit cautious when engaging an opponent,” Santig said.
The Thai boxer, who was described by the matchmaker as a “natural super-middleweight”, is expected to arrive in the Philippines Wednesday.
The fight was set up to gauge Marcial’s readiness of for the upcoming Olympics, where the Filipino pug will compete in the light-heavyweight division.
Marcial won the Olympic bronze medal in the middleweight division, and is currently undefeated in four professional bouts.
He last won a professional match against Ricardo Villalba last year in the US.
In October last year, Marcial took home the silver medal in the light-heavyweight division of the Hangzhou Asian Games.
And a few days before the fight, the Filipino boxer has been preparing non-stop.
The 28-year-old Sinam, on the other hand, is holding a 23-13 win-loss card with 13 knockouts.
The Sinam-Marcial fight will be open to the public and can be watched for free.
