Marcos appoints new Marina chief

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 15) — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has named Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) deputy administrator Sonia Bautista Malaluan as the new head of the agency, Malacañang announced on Friday.

Malaluan replaced Hernani Fabia, whose resignation was made public this month.

She was previously Marina’s deputy administrator for planning and has been a long-time transport official, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said.

«In appointing Malaluan, President Marcos cited her remarkable training and experience in economics, technology, finance, law, management, public utility and in other aspects of the maritime industry,» the PCO stated in a release.

Malaluan is a certified public accountant and graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce from the Western Philippine College.

She earned a master of science degree in shipping management from the World Maritime University in Sweden in 1998, and another master’s degree in public administration from Singapore’s National University, Lee Kwan Yew School of Public Policy in 2011.

Marina is an attached agency of the Department of Transportation.
