Marcos distributes aid to Ilocos farmers

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday led the distribution of P157.9 million worth of agricultural support to farmers and fisherfolk in Ilocos Norte to help them achieve food security in the province.

The event coincided with the celebration of Marcos Day in Batac City to mark the 107th birth anniversary of his father, Ferdinand Sr.

«All this assistance is only part of our bigger goal for everyone for all the hard work you've been putting in for Ilocos and the whole country,» the chief executive said in Filipino. «Every step that we take comes under the unity that we have forged between the different agencies of our government. We are all in this together.»

Around 1,000 farmers, fishermen and livestock raisers from different associations in the province received other support like seeds, tractors, fertilizers, fishery paraphernalia, fuel subsidies, and solar-powered irrigation systems — a collective effort from the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Labor and Employment, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

Marcos vowed to continue providing assistance to the sector that has been badly affected by climate anomalies.

The provision for different kinds of aid will be done through the «Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP)» initiative.
