Marcos draws cheers for being in 'Time 100'

SEVERAL lawmakers have congratulated President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on his inclusion in the prestigious 100 Most Influential People of 2024 by American newsmagazine Time, noting his «unwavering dedication to advance the Philippines' interests» and «securing the future» for Filipinos.

Marcos, in the write-up by Time Singapore correspondent Charlie Campbell, cited his post-pandemic initiatives to keep the economy afloat and to elevate the Philippines on the world stage.

In a statement, Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez said that Marcos' «visionary leadership» has brought tangible improvements in various facets of society.

«His strategic economic policies have steered our country towards stability and growth, even during global uncertainties. Moreover, his steadfast stance against external threats, particularly in defending our sovereignty amidst escalating tensions, exemplifies his resolute commitment to protecting the Filipino people,» Romualdez said.

Romualdez also said that Marcos has shown «genuine concern» for the well-being of every Filipino through his initiatives that tackle societal challenges and foster inclusivity that deeply resonate with the aspirations of the Philippines.

Deputy Speaker and Quezon Rep. David Suarez said that the inclusion of Marcos in the Time 100 is a testament to the administration's advancement of the interests of the nation and upholding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

«His firm and principled approach in asserting our sovereign rights in the face of external threats has earned him widespread acclaim and admiration from both domestic and international communities,» Suarez added.

Members of the «Young Guns» bloc of the House of Representatives also congratulated Marcos for being a part of the Time 100, with Assistant Majority Leader and Zambales Rep. Jefferson Khonghun saying that the inclusion of Marcos is «an affirmation that the 31 million Filipinos who voted for him simply made the right choice.»
