Maynilad to give higher discounts to low-income households in 2024

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 8) — West zone concessionaire Maynilad on Tuesday announced that it will give higher discounts to low-income and low-consuming customers starting Jan. 1, 2024.

The firm already grants a 41% discount to its “regular lifeline” customers, or those whose monthly consumption does not exceed 10 cubic meters.

Under the Enhanced Lifeline Program (ELP), Maynilad said that “regular lifeline” customers who are also marginalized can apply and qualify for a higher discount on their water bills.

Maynilad noted that those who are marginalized are beneficiaries of the government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) or those living below poverty line.

“To be implemented starting January 1, 2024, the ELP was launched after the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System–Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) urged Maynilad to extend a discount not only to its low-consuming customers but also to its marginalized customers, as they are the ones who stand to benefit greatly from the savings that the ‘Low-Income Lifeline Rate’ will yield,” said Maynilad in a statement.

The water concessionaire said that qualified customers who are 4Ps beneficiaries shall submit the following to any Maynilad Business Area office or Maynilad Barangay Helpdesk:

— completed application form

— copy of latest water bill

— photocopy of 4Ps identification

Meanwhile, non-4Ps beneficiaries are required to submit a local Social Welfare and Development Office certification and photocopy of one government ID.

Applications for the higher discounts will start on Nov. 13.

Maynilad caters to certain portions of Manila and Quezon City, Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, Malabon, and Cavite (Cavite City, City of Bacoor, City of Imus, Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario).
