Meneleo Carlos Jr., 95

MANILA, Philippines — Business leader Meneleo Carlos Jr. died on May 17 at the age of 95.

In a statement, Carlos’ family said the businessman and industrialist played an active role in various business organizations, having served as chairman of the Federation of Philippine Industries and holding key roles in the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Bishops-Businessmen’s Conference for Human Development.

As a business leader, Carlos represented the private sector in government-led multi-sectoral bodies such as the negotiating panel for the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant, the Council of Advisers of Energy Affairs and the Committee on Power Conservation and Demand Management.

Carlos, who was known for his stewardship of Philippine chemical conglomerate Resins Inc., led the expansion of the company’s businesses.

He took over the company and became president in 1980 following the retirement of his father and company founder Meneleo Carlos Sr.

Carlos is also recognized as the grandfather of the roll-on/roll-off project that facilitates the seamless movement of people and goods.

An advocate of the wood industry, he received the MOLAWIN (Most Outstanding Leadership Award in the Wood Industry) from the Philippine Wood Producers Association.

“Mr. Carlos has stated that his dream has always been to help the development of the country and its people,” his family said.
