Miru tours Comelec execs in South Korea factory

PANGYO-RO, South Korea — The Miru Co. Systems Ltd. will tour on Monday officials of the Commission on Elections led by Chairman George Garcia around its four-story factory where the equipment that will be used in the 2025 midterm elections are being manufactured.

Miru, a South Korean-based technology firm, won the bid to provide the automated election system the Philippines will use next year.

In his opening remarks, Garcia thanked Miru, led by its president Jinbok Chung for «agreeing to help us» in convincing the Filipinos that this would be «an election we can trust.»

«Whatever suggestions we made, you always complied, you always agreed,» Garcia said ahead of the tour set on Monday afternoon.

Garcia said technology «should not be used to thwart democracy.»

«We have to explain the process step by step for people to understand,» he said. «That is how democracy works.»
