'Miss Saigon' opens audition for 'Tam' role

MANILA, Philippines — GMG Productions is looking for a number of children to share the role of Tam, Kim's young son (between the ages of four to eight), for the upcoming Asian tour of "Miss Saigon" in Manila and other territories.

Audition dates are on January 11 and 12 at The Theatre in Solaire.

The character of Tam is male identifying, of Vietnamese heritage, and with a playing age of three years old. The role can be portrayed by any gender. However, please note that those auditioning with long hair may be required to cut it, if cast.

There is a maximum height restriction of 115 cms. While the age of the child is variable, the height is not.

Walk-in participants will not be entertained on the days of the audition. For audition inquiries and other information, visit its website.

GMG Productions and GWB Entertainment will be bringing producer Cameron Mackintosh’s new version of Boublil & Schönberg’s "Miss Saigon" to The Theatre at Solaire in March this year.

This version of "Miss Saigon" was first staged in London back in 2014 and received record-breaking advance sales and praises from critics.

"Miss Saigon" originally premiered on London's West End in 1989 with Salonga starring opposite Welsh actor Jonathan Pryce — the two reprised their respective roles of Kim and The Engineer on Broadway two years later.

The musical is retelling of Giacomo Puccini's "Madame Butterfly," now set during the Vietnam War. Kim navigates the chaos of Saigon, falls in love with an American G.I. named Chris, and goes on a three-year quest for reunion, all while harboring a heart-wrenching secret.
