MMDA ramps up clean-up of Mabuhay Lanes

OWNERS and drivers of more than 160 illegally parked vehicles were issued tickets while nine unattended vehicles were towed yesterday as part of the intensified crackdown by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on illegal parking in Mabuhay Lanes, especially with the advent of the holiday season.

Yesterday’s operation in Quezon City was led by the agency’s newly-created Special Operations Group.

Some 108 members of the group under the supervision of Assistant General Manager for Operations David Angelo Vargas, Traffic Discipline Office Director for Enforcement Victor Nuñez and Officer-in-Charge Gabriel Go took part in the operation.

“To ensure that all roads covered by Mabuhay Lanes are passable, we are advising other motorists to avoid parking on sidewalks and roads so we can avoid traffic congestion and keep all roadways free from obstruction, as this serves as an alternate route for EDSA,” Vargas said.

Vargas said the 166 motorists who were issued traffic citation tickets for illegal parking will pay a fine of P1,000, while the owners of the unattended illegally parked vehicles will have to shell out P2,000.

Vargas said the MMDA intends to conduct clearing operations in 10 areas every day for a quicker traffic management response.

He also urged the public to report to the agency areas where there is a high concentration of illegally parked vehicles.

There are 17 Mabuhay Lane routes coming from EDSA, North Luzon Expressway, Quezon City and Manila.
