Muntinlupa fines 29 for open mufflers

MANILA, Philippines — At least 29 people driving motorcycles with open mufflers were arrested and fined in Muntinlupa from Dec. 25 until 6 a.m. yesterday.

Under Ordinance 04-022 or the Muntinlupa Traffic Code, violators may be fined up to P7,500.

The traffic code prohibits the use of gadgets on vehicles that emit exceptionally loud or startling sounds.

Meanwhile, 483 assorted illegal firecrackers were confiscated from motorists during the same period.

Ordinance 14-092 allows only a community fireworks display with corresponding permits in Muntinlupa.

A fine of P5,000 and the suspension or revocation of the driver’s license can be meted out on motorists found violating the ban on firecrackers.

Mayor Ruffy Biazon said these ordinances are strictly implemented to ensure the safety of all residents.

In Muntinlupa, some motorists mark special occasions by speeding through the streets with open mufflers or using firecrackers.
