MWSS probes complaints about Maynilad’s 'poor' water quality in Metro Manila

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 10) —The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS RO) said it is investigating customer complaints on the reported “poor” water quality being supplied by Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad).

“Ang paninilaw na ito ay dala ng mas mataas na level ng manganese mula sa raw water. Bahagya kasing tumaas ang manganese sa raw water na dumadaan sa low-level outlet ng Angat Dam,” Maynilad said in a separate statement on Thursday.

[Translation: The yellowing of the water is due to the high level of manganese coming from raw water. There was a slight increase in manganese in our raw water that flowed in the low-level outlets of Angat Dam.]

The MWSS regulatory office said it is «currently investigating the issue and coordinating with Maynilad to identify the root cause of their regularity and implement any necessary corrective actions.»

Maynilad’s franchise area covers the western portion of Metro Manila.

It advised customers to let the water flow until it becomes clear and save the discolored water for non-drinking use.

“Customers may collect and store the discolored water for non-potable uses, like flushing toilets,” the MWSS RO said in a statement on Thursday.

Maynilad said it is conducting network flushing activities and adjusting chemical dosages in the affected areas.
