Navy’s new No. 2 man assumes post

A SENIOR office of the Philippine Navy has been named vice commander, the second highest official in the major service command.

Rear Adm. Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta assumed his new post on Wednesday during rites, presided over by Navy chief Vice Adm. Toribio Adace, at the Navy headquarters in Manila.

Ezpeleta, outgoing Chief of Naval Staff, replaced Rear Adm. Caesar Bernard Valencia who assumed the post of superintendent of the Philippine Military Academy last month.

Espeleta will continue to be the Chief Naval Staff, the third highest official in the Navy, until his successor is designated.

“Your strategic insight and ability to inspire those around you make you the perfect person to take on the mantle of vice commander,” Adaci told Ezpeleta during the ceremony.

Adaci expressed confidence that the Navy will “continue to thrive and evolve, ready to face whatever challenges (that will) come our way” with the qualities of Ezpeleta.

Navy spokesman Cmdr. John Percie Alcos said the role of the Navy vice commander is essential in supporting the Navy chief in strategic planning and operational execution.

“With Rear Adm. Ezpeleta as vice commander, the Philippine Navy is poised to achieve new heights in its mission to protect the nation’s maritime interests,” said Alcos in a statement.

Ezpeleta said he is honored to assume as Navy vice commander. “I look forward to the developments we will achieve together in the service of our maritime nation,” said Ezpeleta.

Adaci paid tribute to Valencia who he said had been “more than a Navy commander.”

“You have been a mentor, a leader, and a steady hand that has guided our Navy through crucial moments. Your legacy is one of integrity, strength, and excellence, and for that, we owe you our deepest gratitude,” he said.
