'New LGU work hours will ease NCR traffic'

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Metro Manila Council (MMC) were one in saying that the new working hours for local government units (LGUs) will not affect government services.

Instead of the usual 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the new working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in order to help ease traffic congestion in Metro Manila.

MMC President and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said that they can put up a skeletal force from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. if there are still pending transactions.

However, instead of April 15, it will be implemented starting May 2.

«Ang April 15 po ay tatlong araw nalang mula ngayon. Mahalaga po kasi na malaman ng publiko 'yung impormasyong ito. Kami po sa LGUs (local government units), we can adjust easily dahil isang simpleng EO (executive order) lang 'yan ay malalaman na ng iba't ibang departamento at mga kawani, ngunit ang publiko po we would like to give them more time,» he said.

There are more than 112,000 LGU employees in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Meanwhile, MMDA acting chairman Don Artes said they will be working on clearing the Mabuhay Lanes of obstructions, as he announced the rates for those who will be penalized.

«Regardless kung unattended o attended ang vehicle P4,000 na ang penalty natin, ang magkakaroon na lang ng difference kung unattended siya i-tow namin, pero whether or not nandun ang driver P4k na po ang penalty,» he said.
