New South Cotabato barangay gets voters’ nod

A NEW barangay has been established in the municipality of Tupi in South Cotabato.

This after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) successfully conducted the plebiscite for the creation of Barangay Juan-Loreto Tamayo last Saturday.

In a statement, the Comelec announced the ratification of Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 158 – 2023, which sought to create the new barangay composed of Sitio Kitubo and Sitio Lamlatang of Barangay Miasong; Sitio Pato and Sitio Landayaw of Barangay Cebuano; and Sitio Alpha of Barangay Linan.

“Following the result of the canvass, the new Barangay of Juan-Loreto Tamayo is hereby created from the existing Barangays of Cebuano, Linan, and Miasong,” said the Comelec.

Based on the Certificate of Canvass (COC), 2,485 voters out of the 9,765 registered voters participated in the plebiscite, for an overall voter turnout of 25.45 percent.

Of the votes cast, 2,393 voters answered “yes,” while 89 voters voted “no.”

In Barangay Cebuano, 1,262 voted “yes,” while 29 answered “no” out of the 1,294 voters who actually voted.

Out of the 569 voters who actually voted in Barangay Linan, 548 answered “yes,” while 21 said “no.”

As for Barangay Miasong, out of the 622 voters who actually voted, 583 said “yes” while 39 answered “no.”
