NWPC to hold wage distortion seminar

FOLLOWING the call of Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma for employers to correct wage distortion in their establishments, the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) is set to conduct a seminar on how to do this.

In a social media post, the NWPC announced that a learning session on correcting wage distortion is set on July 23 at the NWPC Conference Room in Malate, Manila.

“This learning session discusses how to correct wage distortion, which occurs when the usual differentials in wage rates between groups of employees in an establishment are drastically reduced or eliminated due to mandated wage increases,” said the NWPC.

Invited to attend are business owners, Human Resources practitioners, business chambers, and employee organizations.

Last week, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) called on private sector employers to work on fixing cases of wage distortion in their respective establishments.

“There should really be adjustments. It is provided in the law that wage distortion must be addressed by the employers,” said Laguesma in a television interview.
