Only government ID accepted for voter registration

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday advised applicants for voter registration to bring only government-issued identification cards.

Voter registration is from Feb. 12 to Sept. 30.

The poll body will no longer accept company IDs as proof of identity of those who want to register as voters, Comelec Chairman George Garcia said.

This is because some applicants presented bogus company IDs, he added.

Among the IDs applicants may present include the national ID; postal ID; persons with disability ID; student’s ID or library card; senior citizen’s ID; driver’s license or student permit; National Bureau of Investigation clearance; Philippine passport; Social Security System, Government Service Insurance System or other Unified Multi-Purpose ID; Professional Regulatory Commission license; certificate of confirmation issued by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, and barangay identification or certification with photo.
