P390K aid given to family of slain broadcaster

THE Office of the President and other government offices have provided P390,000 worth of assistance to the family of slain broadcaster Juan “DJ Johnny Walker” Jumalon, the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) said LAST Saturday night.

The PTFoMS, in a social media post, said task Force head Paul Gutierrez and Misamis Occidental Police chief Col. Dwight Monato handed P350,000 in aid from the Office of the President and the Office of the Speaker to Jumalon’s wife, Joreebel, and their children, Stephen Kyle and Kyla.

Before that, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) handed P30,000 worth of funeral burial assistance and educational cash assistance to the family.

The DSWD had also endorsed the Jumalon family to its Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) assessment team for possible livelihood cash aid.

Gutierrez relayed President Marcos Jr.’s condolences and assurance to the family that law enforcement agencies are exerting all efforts to apprehend those behind the killing.

Jumalaon was on live broadcast when a gunman entered the radio booth in his home and shot him last November 5.

“The leads and possible motives being pursued by the investigators are showing promising results pointing to a faster resolution of this incident,” Gutierrez said, adding that authorities would not stop until the identified suspect and possible mastermind, if there is any, are arrested and brought to justice.

Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Johnny Walker had been formed led by Monato and a computer-generated sketch of the gunman had been released by authorities.

A P3.7 million reward has also been dangled for the arrest of the suspects in the killing of Jumalon.

The office of Governor Henry Oaminal Sr. has offered a reward of P500,000 to anyone who can provide information on the suspects and P3 million to any law enforcer who can actually arrest any of them, while the PTFoMS and the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission each offered P100,000 for any information leading to the suspects’ arrest.

The SITG, last November 8, filed a complaint for murder and theft before the Misamis Occidental Prosecutor’s Office against the suspects. – With Wendell
