Pasig City drops in highly urbanized cities rankings

From No. 6 in 2019, Pasig City dropped to No. 9 in the 2024 Rankings of Highly Urbanized Cities under the Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index.

The rankings, established by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), was derived from how much a city scored on the five pillars of progress — economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, resiliency, and innovation.

Pasig City, under the leadership of Mayor Vico Sotto, ranked 9th among 33 other local government units with a total score of 43.7356%, lower than its 2023 score of 44.5875%.

Quezon City topped the list, followed by Manila, Pasay, Muntinlupa, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro and Davao.

In terms of economic dynamism, Pasig City ranked 8th with 5.8656%, two notches lower than its score in 2019. It was lower than the city's overall score of 6.0307% in 2023.

In terms of government efficiency, which refers to the quality and reliability of government services and support, Pasig dropped from 4th place in 2019 to 10th place this year. Its total score of 11.2497% was lower than its 2023 score of 11.8189%.

In terms of innovation, Pasig ranked 16th with a score of 8.1345%, also lower than its previous year record of 8.4298%.

From 10th in 2019, the city dropped to 12th this year in terms of resiliency with a score of 12.2316%, lower than its 2023 record of 12.5480%.

In terms of infrastructure, Pasig fell to 12th from 8th in 2019. It scored a total of 6.2542%, higher than its score of 5.7601% in 2023.

DTI data showed that Pasig City consecutively remained at 9th place for the years 2023 and 2024, resulting in an 8th place finish in the 2024 rankings of Most Improved Highly Urbanized Cities.

Recently, graft charges were filed against Sotto before the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with the planned construction of a new Pasig City Hall.
