PBA to implement challenge system in Commissioner's Cup

MANILA, Philippines – This upcoming conference, the PBA is implementing a challenge system.

At a press conference Tuesday announcing the Commissioner’s Cup, PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said that teams will have one challenge in the upcoming conference, which will start next month.

However, if the challenge is successful, the team will have another challenge.

Unlike in the NBA, challenges will not use up a timeout if they were unsuccessful.

“Teams could challenge now, but only one. If it was successful, then two. But, there will be no timeouts lost,” Marcial said in Filipino.

Aside from this, players will not be able to call timeouts any longer.

The 2023-24 season will start next month.

The Commissioner’s Cup will start on November 5, and the first game will be between the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots and the TNT Tropang Giga at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Weekday games will be at 4 p.m. and at 8 p.m.

Weekend games, meanwhile, will be at 3 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.

Aside from the games at the Araneta Coliseum, Philsports Arena and Ynares Center, there will be out-of-town matches in Tiaong, Quezon; San Jose, Batangas; Cagayan de Oro City; and Iloilo City.
