PCG rescue 400 people from flooded Samar villages

MANILA, Philippines: THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) conducted rescue operations in various parts of Northern Samar in response to the escalating flooding situation caused by heavy rains attributed to the shear line and low-pressure area (LPA).

In a report issued on Wednesday, the PCG said at least 400 residents in five adjacent villages in Catarman have so far been evacuated.

Those who were rescued from the affected areas that include the villages of Macagtas, Molave, Yakal, Narra and Ipil-ipil were relocated to the Catarman evacuation center.

«Swift and decisive action has been taken to provide these families with the necessary assistance and ensure their well-being,» the PCG said.

The rescue and evacuation operations are still in progress as emergency response teams continue their efforts to safeguard the residents of Catarman.

«The situation is being closely monitored, and additional resources are being deployed to manage the evolving crisis,» the PCG said in a statement.

It added that local authorities are also actively working to determine the exact number of individuals or households that have undergone forced evacuation in the specified villages.

«This information will be crucial for effectively addressing the needs of the evacuated residents,» the PCG pointed out.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the low-pressure area and shear line experienced since Monday would continue to bring heavy rains in Southern Luzon and Visayas until Wednesday.
