PLDT, Nxled, Chery Tiggo eye 2nd win

MANILA, Philippines — PLDT is expected to rely heavily on Russian import Elena Samoilenko anew as it shoots for a second straight win against Galeries Tower today in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena.

Samoilenko detonated a 34-point bomb in powering the High Speed Hitters to a 16-25, 25-22, 24-26, 25-19, 15-12 stunner over the Creamline Cool Smashers in Tuesday’s opener at the same Pasig venue.

“Every game, I want to lead better,” said Samoilenko.

PLDT will face the Galeries Tower team that also came from a five-set duel (25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 25-27, 15-12) although on the losing end versus Nxled.

Former skipper Mika Reyes, who is back from a shoulder injury that sidelined her for a year, stressed there should be no room for complacency when they battle the Highrisers.

“Dapat hindi kami maging complacent, kailangan mag-focus,” said Reyes, who scored three points on her return, playing all five sets without encountering a setback.

Chery Tiggo and Nxled likewise shoot for a second triumph in a row as the two face off at 2 p.m., preceding the 4 p.m. PLDT-Galeries Tower showdown.
