PNP: Nearly 300kg shabu seized at MICT

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) said that the Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (IADITG) has seized approximately 270 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride or «shabu» at the Manila International Container Terminal or MICT.

PNP Public Information Office chief Col. Jean Fajardo said that the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) received a tip regarding the upcoming shipment to MICT last weekend.

«Sa ngayon ay ongoing yung accounting, just to give you background last weekend ay may na-receive na information ang PDEG na meron pong paparating na shipment from Mexico na naglalaman ng malaking bulto ng illegal drugs at ini-report nila yan sa BoC. At, kanina nga, ay ininspect itong shipment na ito at based sa X-ray ay may confirmation na may mga drugs doon at based sa initial na test ay nag-confirm na shabu ito but as to the quantity,» Fajardo said.

Citing a report, Fajardo also said there are more or less 200 to 275 kilos but it may be more than what it was stated in the first report. That is why an inventory is still being done.

«PDEG received information about a possible shipment from Mexico. So they shared this intelligence report with the Customs. True enough, the control number matched with the tipped off shipment. Nagsagawa ng inspection at nung buksan ay meron pong illegal drugs (Authorities conducted and inspection, which yielded illegal drugs),» she said.

«Napakaraming boxes nito so ongoing 'yung inventory ngayon (Numerous boxes were found and an inventory is still ongoing),» she added.
