Poe: More motorcycle taxis beneficial to public

SEN. Grace Poe on Wednesday said that the riding public would benefit from the competition resulting from the operation of more motorcycle taxi firms.

«This is exactly why we have always pushed for the legalization of motorcycle taxis,» said Poe, chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Services.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board recently accredited four more transport network companies with about 8,000 riders in Regions 3 (Central Luzon) and 4 (Calabarzon and Mimaropa).

«The final study gives supporting data for the expansion of the industry, not just for new players but also wider operations in the country,» she added.

Poe said that with more motorcycle taxi firms operating, commuters would have more options amid the worsening traffic conditions in the country as long as road and passenger safety measures are in place.

«The riding public and the official data are on the side of legalizing motorcycle taxis. It is time that public policy and legislation keep up with the changing times,» she said.
