PPA readies for 5.1M holiday passengers

THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is gearing up for the long holiday from Dec. 16, 2023 to Jan. 5, 2024, with expanded facilities and streamlined operations, anticipating a passenger increase to 5.1 million from last year's 4.7 million.

«On December 18, a soft launch will unveil the expansion of Batangas port facilities, doubling the existing passenger capacity from 3,500 to 8,000,» PPA General Manager Jay Daniel Santiago said.

PPA's holiday readiness ensures a safe and efficient travel experience for passengers.

Batangas port expects a daily influx of 17,000 to 20,000 passengers. The high passenger volume is expected due to domestic tourism, particularly in Puerto Galera, Boracay and Babac Port on Samal Island.

PPA is implementing a queueing system in Matnog Allen to enhance efficiency.

Challenges persist in the San Bernardino Strait due to tidal action, prompting the government to issue gale warnings.
