Prank call delays Japan-bound PR412

MANILA, Philippines: A Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight bound for Kansai, Japan was delayed for five hours following a report of a bomb inside the plane.

The 200 passengers on board PR412 were immediately ordered to disembark as the aviation security unit of the Philippine National Police made a paneling inspection of the plane.

Flight PR412 was supposed to leave Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) at 9 a.m. Wednesday (May 1) when the incident occurred after airport authorities received a call from a woman asking if there was a bomb inside the aircraft.

Airport authorities added that the paneling inspection was completed at 11 a.m., ensuring that the plane was safe before leaving for Japan.

The flight bound for Kansai, Japan was rescheduled at 3 p.m. from NAIA instead of 12:40 p.m., as a result of the documentation process.

Passengers were required to undergo security measures, such as security screenings and the reevaluation of their belongings or luggage through x-ray machines.

PAL spokesman Cielo Villaluna appealed to the public to refrain from making any bomb jokes or comments that refer to bombs, explosives, or any instruments of violence while at the airport or on board any flight.

«Your compliance and cooperation will help us avoid any security or law enforcement actions that may delay flights and cause unnecessary inconvenience to all travelers,» Villaluna said.
