PRC urges public to donate blood
THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Tuesday intensified its call for blood donations to provide an adequate and safe blood supply for the most vulnerable people.
While the holiday season is known as the lean period for blood donation due to vacations, seasonal illness, school breaks and severe weather, urgent demand for blood increases due to more road accidents, the PRC said.
PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon directed the blood centers and 71 blood collection units of the Red Cross across the country to be prepared for a higher demand for blood in hospitals and communities during the holiday season.
«Blood cannot be manufactured by humans. We can only get blood through donations. This holiday season, most of our fellows will be needing blood, and we are encouraging everyone to donate to our blood center and blood collecting units. Let this serve as a gift and hope for Filipino people this Christmas,» Gordon said.
