President Marcos sends best wishes for King Charles’ recovery

MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has joined calls for prayer for the speedy recovery of King Charles, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

“Sending my heartfelt best wishes to King Charles and Queen Camilla. The Philippines is with the United Kingdom in praying for the King’s swift and full recovery,” Marcos said in a Twitter post yesterday.

Buckingham Palace announced on Feb. 5 that the 75-year-old king would postpone public-facing duties while he undergoes treatment.

The Palace did not reveal what kind of cancer the king has, but said it is not related to his recent treatment of a benign prostate condition, reports said.

Marcos attended King Charles’ coronation in London on May 6 last year.

Charles acceded to the British throne after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II on Sept. 8, 2022.

In an interview in May last year, Marcos said he and First Lady Liza Marcos were able to talk to Charles at the reception the King hosted at Buckingham Palace.

“A day before the coronation of King Charles III, we were able to speak with his majesty at the reception, where we sent him the congratulations of all Filipinos,” Marcos said.

The Chief Executive said Charles also asked about his mother, former first lady Imelda Marcos.

“He asked after his friend, my mother, former first lady Imelda Marcos, and recounted fond memories of the time they shared together,” Marcos said.

As Charles receives treatment for cancer, he remains Britain’s monarch and head of state, according to reports.

The king’s older son, Prince William, is next in line for the throne.
