Press Release - Cayetanos bring aid to Quezon City fire victims as recovery efforts continue

"Ang problema namin, wala po kaming tirahan. Pero sa kabila nito, lahat po kami ay ligtas. Malaking tulong po itong ipinaabot ninyo."

Flordeliza Lopez, one of the fire victims in Quezon City, thanked Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano for including her among the hundreds of fire victims who received assistance on Thursday, July 18, 2024.

"Y'ung sunog po ay nangyari ng madaling araw," an emotional Lopez said. "Wala na po akong naisalba kundi mga mahahalagang dokumento dahil nasa third floor po ang bahay namin. Talagang hirap po kami."

The fire devastated an area where many homes were built with lightweight materials, resulting in the destruction of residences for 197 families in the barangay.

To provide immediate relief, the Emergency Response Department (ERD) team of the Cayetanos collaborated with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Barangay San Roque Chairman Telesforo "Nonoy" Mortega.

They delivered aid to 156 fire victims in Barangay San Roque, Quezon City through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) Program

"Nag-aadjust pa rin po ang karamihan sa kanila [mga biktima] at may ilan pa pong hindi pa rin nagkakaroon ng tirahan. Maraming salamat po sa inyong ipinaabot na tulong," said Barangay Chairman Mortega.

He also encouraged the victims to persevere and assured them that more help would be on the way.

This ERD initiative was part of the Bayanihan Caravan of the Cayetano siblings, which travels nationwide to assist Filipinos in need and support vulnerable communities.
