'Procurement bill will lessen corruption'
SEN. Juan Edgardo Angara said Senate Bill 2593 or the New Government Procurement Act (NGPA) will enhance transparency and efficiency in government procurement process.
«The NGPA results from extensive consultations with all stakeholders, focusing on the Executive branch. This collaborative endeavor has yielded a law that will safeguard government funds and enhance service delivery,» Angara said.
The reconciled version of the NGPA was approved by the bicameral conference committee on Wednesday.
SEN. Juan Edgardo 'Sonny” Angara. File PhotoIt supersedes the 21-year-old Republic Act 9184 or the Government Procurement Reform Act (GPRA), sponsored by Angara's father, the late former Senate president Edgardo Angara.
«Over time, scheming minds were still able to exploit the GPRA, and it is high time that we clamp down on these illegal practices by eliminating the opportunities for corruption, and this is what the NGPA intends to achieve,» Angara said.
The bill was set to be reviewed and signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
