PUV modernization, Dec. 31 consolidation deadline ipinatitigil sa Korte Suprema | Pilipino Star Ngayon

MANILA, Philippines — Naghain ng petisyon ang Piston atbp. grupo sa Korte Suprema para mahinto ang pagpapatupad ng PUV Modernization Program at December 31 consolidation deadline ng gobyerno, bagay na ikawawala ng trabaho ng libu-libo sa 2024.

Humiling ang grupo ng "restraining order" laban sa mga nabanggit matapos lagdaan ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) ang Memorandum Circular 2023-051, bagay magbabawal sa mga unconsolidated jeepneys na pumasada simula ika-1 ng Enero.

"Given the extreme urgency and in order that the petitioners may not suffer great and irreparable injuries, petitioner move for the issuance of a Temporary Restraining Order and/or a Preliminary Injunction to enjoin the implementation of the assailed administrative issuances," wika ng petisyon.

"This is in order to protect the substantive rights and interests of the Petitioners while the case is pending before the Honorable Court."

Kabilang sa mga pinaiisyuhan ng TRO at/o writ of preliminary injuction ang mga sumusunod:

Bukod sa Piston, kabilang din sa mga petitioner ang Bayan Muna party-list, No to PUV Phaseout Coalition-Panay at abogadong si Neri Colmenares.

Itinutulak ng gobyerno ang konsolidasyon ng mga public utility vehicles (PUVs) sa kalakip ng PUVMP. Kakailanganing makapagtransisyon patungong "modernong" minibuses o e-jeeps ang mga jeepney at UV Express 27 buwan matapos ang ika-31 ng Disyembre. Magsisimula ang phase out matapos nito.

Una nang sinabi ng Department of Transportation nitong ika-30 ng Nobyembre na 84,809 public utility jeepney units (57%) at 12,508 UV Express units (65%) pa lang ang nakonsolida sa ilalim ng mga kooperatiba o korporasyon.

Dahil dito, lumalabas na 64,639 PUJs (43%) at 6,756 UVE units pa ang hindi konsolidado. Mas mababa pa ang consolidated units sa Metro Manila — 10,973 PUJ units (26%) at 2,947 UVE.

"These figures, according to IBON Foundation, would mean that around 140,000 drivers and [60,000] operators nationwide, along with their families, would be economically displaced as a result of the
