Rain or Shine pricks Magnolia bubble

MANILA, Philippines — Rain or Shine stained Magnolia’s spotless mark, 113-110, to continue its resurgence in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup last night at the Aquilino Pimentel Convention Center in Cagayan de Oro.

Tree Treadwell provided the muscle inside, turning in a near triple-double of 30 points, 16 rebounds and nine assists, while the locals took care of business from deep with 16 makes to key the upset.

This enabled the Elasto Painters to extend their streak to three games after a 0-5 start and boost their playoffs drive.

In doing so, Yeng Guiao’s gritty wards dealt the Hotshots their first loss after rolling past their first seven opponents in the season-opening conference.

The Hotshots, who also swept the 11-game PBA On Tour pre-season series, tasted defeat for the first time since yielding to Meralco in the Season 47 Governors’ Cup quarterfinals.

A replacement for original import DaJuan Summers, Treadwell produced his best scoring output in four outings and capped his heroics with a pivotal offensive rebound and a split free throw that gave ROS a 113-110 breathing space with 10.9 seconds left. The E-Painters then stopped the Hotshots from making a shot at the equalizer.

Andre Caracut shot 15 spiked by three triples.
