Registration of nearly 700K voters cancelled

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has deleted the records of nearly 700,000 registered voters as part of its ongoing efforts to cleanse the voters list ahead of the May 2025 national and local polls.

Data from the Comelec showed that 693,558 registered voters have been removed as of July 15.

Of the total number, 249,343 were cancelled by reason of their deaths as certified by Local Civil Registrars.

The poll body said another 220,644 voters were also removed after they opted to be transferred to another city/municipality.

The Comelec likewise said the registration of 179,141 voters were scratched off after they were found to have double registration through the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).

There were also 42,236 registered voters cancelled after applying to be overseas voters.
