Remains of 2 seafarers arrive in Manila: DMW

THE remains of two Filipino seafarers were finally brought home yesterday, almost four months since their vessel M/V True Confidence was attacked by Houthi rebels in the Gulf of Aden.

“Relatives of two Filipino crew members of bulk carrier M/V True Confidence mourn as they received the remains of their loved ones at the NAIA cargo area,” the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.

There were 15 Filipino crew members aboard the M/V True Confidence when the vessel was attacked on March 6. The other 13 Filipino crew members returned to the country also in March.

The DMW said assured the families of the two seafarers of assistance.

Meanwhile, the second batch of seafarers of the M/V Transworld Navigator had been expected to arrive on Tuesday night, with Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and senior officials set to welcome them.

No other information was been provided.

Last Sunday, five of the 27 Filipino crew members of the M/V Transworld Navigator returned home.

The MV Transworld Navigator was struck by a Houthi drone attack while sailing in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen.

There were 27 Filipino crew members on board the MV Transworld Navigator at the time of the incident, and were unharmed by the attacks.
