Remulla appointment on hold

THE Commission on Appointments (CA) has yet to act on the appointment of Jonvic Remulla Jr. as secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) because Congress is on recess.

Congress went on a scheduled break in late September and will resume session on November 4.

«We already have Secretary Remulla's papers, but we won't be able to tackle his appointment for now because Congress is adjourned. We are not in session,» Surigao del Sur 2nd District Rep. Johnny Pimentel, an assistant minority leader of the CA, said in a statement on Sunday.

Pimentel said the CA received Remulla's appointment papers on October 9.

Appointments made while Congress is not in session are considered ad interim appointments.

Remulla, brother of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, was the governor of Cavite when President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed him to the DILG.

Remulla succeeded Benhur Abalos, who resigned after filing his candidacy for senator in the 2025 elections.
