Sara’s trust, approval ratings higher than Marcos Jr. – poll

MANILA, Philippines — The approval and trust ratings of Vice President Sara Duterte remained higher than those of President Marcos, according to a survey conducted by Pulse Asia last month.

Duterte, who recently resigned as education secretary, obtained an approval rating of 69 percent, 16 points higher than the 53 percent approval score of Marcos.

The poll was conducted from June 17 to 24, which coincided with Duterte’s resignation from the Cabinet.

Compared to a similar survey conducted in March, approval of Duterte increased by two points from 67 percent. Marcos’ approval rating went down by two points from 55 percent.

Disapproval with Duterte decreased from 11 percent to nine percent, while disapproval with Marcos hardly moved from 20 percent to 19 percent.

Those who were undecided remained at 22 percent for Duterte while it increased from 25 percent to 29 percent for Marcos.

Across areas, approval with the performance of the President was highest among those in Metro Manila at 61 percent (from 47 percent), followed by those in the rest of Luzon at 57 percent (from 66 percent), the Visayas at 56 percent (from 54 percent) and Mindanao at 38 percent (from 40 percent).

For Duterte, almost all or 95 percent of the respondents in her bailiwick Mindanao said they approve of her performance (from 92 percent), followed by those in the Visayas at 80 percent), Metro Manila at 64 percent (from 52 percent) and rest of Luzon at 54 percent (from 61 percent).

Duterte’s rants

In terms of trust, the disparity between the two highest officials was wider.

Duterte received a trust rating of 71 percent, compared to the 52 percent obtained by Marcos.

While the Vice President’s trust ratings remained the same compared to the March survey, Marcos’ ratings dipped by five points from 57 percent.

Those who distrust Duterte also stayed at eight percent while distrust with Marcos increased from 15 percent to 21 percent.
