SC justice bothered by text scams
SUPREME Court Senior Associate Justice Marvic Leonen has complained about relentless scam text messages he is receiving from anonymous numbers.
“Hoping for that day when I receive no more scam text messages morning, afternoon and night time. enough na po,” Leonen said in a post on his Twitter account.
Leonen even posted one of the scam text messages he received, with the sender asking for information on behalf of a certain bank.
Last week, several senators slammed the National Telecommunications Commission after the agency claimed the SIM Card Registration Act is not a “silver bullet” to put an end to text or messaging scams.
Among those who criticized the NTC are Senate President Chiz Escudero and Sen. Grace Poe.
Republic Act 11934, or the SIM Card Registration Act, was the first law signed by President Marcos Jr. when he assumed the post in 2022.
The law seeks to put an end to or curb electronic communications-aided crimes such as text spam.
