TecPlata deepens Buenos Aires channel

TECPLATA, the container terminal operated by International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) at La Plata in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has dredged its marine channels to a depth of 10 meters, positioning it ahead of other Buenos Aires terminals with limited depths.

Tecplata CEO Juan Pablo Trujillo said: «The development gives TecPlata an advantage over the terminals in Buenos Aires, where the channels are limited to 10 meters. Our next objective is to deepen the access channel further to 14 meters, aligning TecPlata with or surpassing other ports in the region.»

TecPlata, already the most modern marine terminal in the Buenos Aires area, is strategically situated on a 40-hectare oceanfront property. Its advanced port equipment and robust security systems significantly benefit international shipping companies and cargo operators in South America.

Trujillo added: «This will provide TecPlata with a unique advantage over the rest of the ports in the Buenos Aires area.»

With a design capacity exceeding 1 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), TecPlata is well-prepared for future increases in foreign trade. This capacity is expected to solidify TecPlata's position as Argentina's preferred gateway, bolstering the nation's role in the global supply chain.

In October 2008, TecPlata was granted a 30-year concession to build and operate a multipurpose port terminal in the greater Buenos Aires area. Built with an investment of $450 million, TecPlata is Argentina's most modern container terminal, initially holding a capacity of 450,000 TEUs, expandable to 1 million TEUs in its second phase.
