Teodoro bans AI app use in DND, military

DEFENSE Secretary Gilberto «Gibo» Teodoro Jr. issued a memorandum dated Oct. 14, 2023, prohibiting all personnel of the Department of National Defense (DND) and its bureaus and personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) the use of artificial intelligence (AI) application.

In the memorandum, Teodoro said AI poses risk and danger to everyone's privacy.

«All DND and AFP personnel are directed to refrain from using AI photo generator applications, and practice vigilance in sharing information online. Ensure that your actions are aligned to the department's values and are in adherence to existing policies,» the memorandum stated.

The online trending digital application AI, Teodoro said, requires its users to submit at least ten photos of themselves to generate an enhanced portrait, posing significant privacy and security risk.

This application complies with the user's data and creates a digital person that mimics how a real individual speaks and moves, he also said.
