The Nevermets fans all say same thing as long-distance lovers Jay, 17, and Veena, 26, finally meet

It's been described by various leading TV critics, as 'bleak', an 'evil version of First Dates' and 'sure to end in tears'. But that hasn't stopped everyone watching, open-mouthed, Channel 4's latest reality dating show, The Nevermets, a show where long-distance lovers turn their virtual romance into reality as they meet face-to-face for the first time and immerse themselves in their real worlds. Having started on Channel 4 last Friday and continuing on Friday, 31 May at 10pm on Channel 4, the six-part series follows madly-in-love Brits including 38 year old catering assistant Sarah who's fallen for with Jgoy, a 27 year old virtual assistant in the Philippines and Dumebi, 25, who met Mazi, 27, and works hiring out yachts and cars in Dubai.

The first episode also introduced viewers to floppy-fringed 17 year old A-level student Jay, who was only 15 when he met now-26 year old Veena in a Game Of Thrones chatroom but is travelling 4,500 miles to meet her at home in India.

But sadly many viewers predicted an unhappy future for the lovestruck couple, largely down to the age gap between them. On YouTube, one person said: He is Year 12?!?! Nah he should just focus on school. Him and the Indian woman are at two different stages of life.

She has a mortgage and he hasn’t even completed his A Levels." Another commented: "The lad is sweet but he doesn't seem mature enough for what he's stepping into I'll be honest." Over on Mumsnet it was a similar picture, with one concerned person saying: "Jay and Veena seem to have lots in common but a 10 year age gap when he is only 16 is huge.

They seem to really like eachother but the family expectations of engagement, marriage etc were massive." And yet another said: "The cultural differences are far too vast for the seventeen year old kiddo bless him. He seems very naive for his age. I do like Veena, and hope she can put his best interests first- he needs to experience life.
