Unite, Go urges Filipinos
AS the nation marked its 126th Independence Day on June 12, Sen. Bong Go urged Filipinos to unite, cooperate and contemplate the true significance of the nation's freedom from foreign rule.
Go underscored the continued relevance of the sacrifices made by our forebears and the ongoing challenges that the nation faces.
«As we celebrate the 126th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine independence today, every Filipino needs to understand the true spirit of Independence Day,» Go said. «We once again commemorate our ancestors' great sacrifices and offering of life for freedom and a beautiful future for the Filipino nation. This also reflects our unity wherever we are.»
Go highlighted the modern challenges that continue to test the country's freedom and dignity, including poverty, unemployment, income inequality and the right to free speech.
He pointed out threats to Philippine sovereignty, such as foreign encroachments into the nation's territory and waters.
«Because of these challenges, we must remember that achieving freedom requires remembering the past and continuously fighting, uniting and cooperating,» said Go.
«Like our past heroes, I hope we continue to embody our love of country, service and compassion for fellow Filipinos in our daily activities,» he added.

«I believe that compassion for others is a small way to keep the spirit of freedom and love of country alive,» he said.
«May we embrace the true spirit of our freedom today and continue our love and compassion for our fellow Filipinos. Let's prioritize the interest of the nation because we can dedicate it to the next generations,» he said.
